A Community Conversation with author Tamim Ansary.

Meet
Tamim Ansary, Afghan-American, author, lecturer and teacher, for a
community conversation "An Afghan-American Odyssey: My Bi-Cultural Life
in a Post 9-11 World." Ansary will share his story of a bi-cultural
life: having been born in Afghanistan, studied in the United States and
now traveling back and forth between the two as an adult. Ansary will
discuss his more recent travels to Afghanistan after the fall of the
Taliban, lessons he has learned from being of both cultures, and the
differentiating world-views between Afghans and Americans.
Space is limited and pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
Tamim
Ansary, author, lecturer, and teacher, was born and raised in
Afghanistan and has lived in the United States since 1964. He writes
about Islam, politics, democracy, history, education, philosophy, the
social impact of technology, sports, movies, and other topics as they
catch his fancy. His columns and analyses can be found at his blogsite
www.mirtamimansary.com. Ansary’s books include a historical novel (The
Widow’s Husband) a memoir (West of Kabul, East of New York) and
Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World through Islamic Eyes, which
won the 2010 Northern California Book Award for general nonfiction.
Ansary also runs the San Francisco Writers Workshop and teaches
sporadically through the Osher Institute of Lifelong Learning at San
Francisco State and at U.C. Berkeley. Recently, Ansary edited and
published Snapshots: This Afghan American Life, an anthology of work by
15 young Afghan-Americans, whom he mentored as writers. He lives in
San Francisco with his wife Deborah and his cat Raoul.
